life is not black or white
This is Jan...again. Yesterday we went to La Conciergerie. It sounds like it is a hand-holding service to tell grownups from foreign countries what to do in France. It is not. It's the equivalent of a death-camp. Our American government friends politely suggested we could miss it. The adventurer in Randy & I thought we could handle it. Basically, it's the prison where they held the Royals and Traitors to the revolution while they awaited "trial" and prepared for execution. It was daunting to Randy. It was a trigger for me. I could feel the despair, the anger, the hate, the closed-mindedness of that time period. It was especially poignant because I had watched the film, Les Miserables, on the plan on our way over. Seen from each side, there is no one right way to solve most problems. I tend to side with the revolutionaries, but truly, there are always so many innocent caught up in the ugly parts of life. It made me realize that with history comes understanding and with understanding sometimes there is pain. That is the only place that I did not want to buy something from the gift shop.
On a lighter note...
Our bathroom flooded! Thankfully, from the shower curtain not being a good fit. Randy just mopped the floor. I am so proud of his new-found domestic skills. He even washed all the wet towels! Why is this a good thing? Because we have to take the towels to the laverie to dry and there is a really good restaurant across the street. Yum... I hope. He's trying to read over my shoulder, that could foil my plan. Over and out!

This is Jan! We have decided that Mondays will be "P" days - everything is closed!!! It's been a great weekend. We got up to go to church, fell back asleep and slept til 100 pm. So we decided to walk to the church anyway to see where it is. Two hours later we finally found it. Next Sunday will be a cake walk. ;o) Today: doing my first load of laundry, just finished the dishes, Randy is studying by watching "Erkle" in French. ;o( We went to the Academie Nationale de Musique, Le Jardin des Tulliers, and to the Palais Royale (couldn't figure out how to get in the garden). We live on a very busy street with a market and bio (organic) food store close by. I passed my first level of French with Rosetta Stone. If I can one a day I will be proficient by April 30, 2015. haha. Starting to miss our friends and family, but it's all still an adventure. We really need to find some volunteer work to do!!!!

We finally arrived in Paris. We were met at the airport by a contracted driver to take us to our apartment. We are near the Louvre and other museums. Our apartment is in a 16th century building. Rock on some walls. Wooden beams on the ceiling. Small but lots of character. This will be our home for the next three months.
Yesterday we spent all day in the Louvre. We are so lucky to have our apartment within walking distance of the Louvre. It is so huge. We still didn't see everything. The art and artifacts from around the world are amazing.
