This is Jan...again. Yesterday we went to La Conciergerie. It sounds like it is a hand-holding service to tell grownups from foreign countries what to do in France. It is not. It's the equivalent of a death-camp. Our American government friends politely suggested we could miss it. The adventurer in Randy & I thought we could handle it. Basically, it's the prison where they held the Royals and Traitors to the revolution while they awaited "trial" and prepared for execution. It was daunting to Randy. It was a trigger for me. I could feel the despair, the anger, the hate, the closed-mindedness of that time period. It was especially poignant because I had watched the film, Les Miserables, on the plan on our way over. Seen from each side, there is no one right way to solve most problems. I tend to side with the revolutionaries, but truly, there are always so many innocent caught up in the ugly parts of life. It made me realize that with history comes understanding and with understanding sometimes there is pain. That is the only place that I did not want to buy something from the gift shop.
On a lighter note...
Our bathroom flooded! Thankfully, from the shower curtain not being a good fit. Randy just mopped the floor. I am so proud of his new-found domestic skills. He even washed all the wet towels! Why is this a good thing? Because we have to take the towels to the laverie to dry and there is a really good restaurant across the street. Yum... I hope. He's trying to read over my shoulder, that could foil my plan. Over and out!
I'll bet you could feel the stones crying. Cruelty is never "right." Perhaps it seeps into the matter that surrounds the event and lingers there as a witness.
